Let’s go with the 10 apps that every camping enthusiast should have on their mobile.
1. Flush
We start with a not-so-glamorous topic… but one that is totally necessary.
Although many of us carry a toilet in our camper (and for me it is essential), I know that more and more travelers prefer to do without it. In those cases, or when we simply can’t use ours, Flush is the perfect solution.
It’s an app that shows geolocated bathrooms, indicating whether they are free or paid and if they are accessible for people with reduced mobility.
Ideal for emergencies… although I still prefer my portable toilet .
2. Google Maps
When we talk about navigation, Google Maps is a classic.
It is undoubtedly the app with the most available information: whatever you are looking for, there is a 99% chance it is on Google Maps. The satellite view is ideal for getting an idea of the terrain or the kind of area where we want to stay overnight.
Moreover:
You can create your own maps in “Your places”.
It allows you to download maps for offline use (very useful when we have no coverage).
In CarPlay, the satellite view is perfect for navigating rough roads and paths.
When I travel to remote areas, it’s one of the apps I use the most.
3. Waze
Waze is, for me, the best navigation app for real-time traffic.
It started as a social network of users reporting all kinds of road events: accidents, traffic jams, speed traps, objects on the road… Thanks to that, the alerts are extremely accurate.
I have experienced situations where Waze warned me of an obstacle on the road… and indeed, a few meters later I found a truck tire right in the lane.
Strengths:
- Real-time alerts.
- Speed notifications.
- Very active community.
Weakness:
- Sometimes it creates “creative” routes, especially to avoid traffic jams. If you are in a large van, it may lead you through very narrow streets.
That’s why it’s best to combine it with Google Maps depending on the situation.
4. Park4Night
One of the best-known apps among campers and vanlifers.
Park4Night allows you to consult:
- Campsites
- Motorhome areas
- Rest areas
- Places to simply stop or stay overnight
The best part is its huge community: each location has photos, comments, and real ratings, which greatly helps decision-making.
It is probably the main app for finding places to sleep.
5. Meteored
Weather information is key when traveling in a camper.
Meteored offers:
- 14-day forecast
- Weather alerts
- Weather evolution maps
This last one is the most interesting: seeing how clouds and rain will move in the next few hours helps to decide whether to change areas to look for better weather.
6. CaraMaps
Although Park4Night is used more, CaraMaps is a very useful second option.
It is very similar in concept but has some extra features like GeoChat, a chat to talk with other travelers nearby and share information in real-time.
It also allows you to create trips and save the points where we want to stay overnight.
Ideal as a complement.
7. Geocaching
More than an app, it’s a game that turns travels into a kind of treasure hunt.
Other users hide small containers in special places, with a logbook and items for exchange. You just have to follow the coordinates and find it.
We played a lot back in 2005, and now I’m picking it up again with my daughter Nuria. It’s a great activity to enjoy the trip differently.
8. CampingCard ACSI
Although many times I stay anywhere, there are moments when I prefer to be more comfortable, set up outdoor furniture, and enjoy without worries. For that, nothing better than a campsite.
The CampingCard ACSI app shows campsites that accept this discount card, ideal for saving in the low season.
If you don’t know what the ACSI card is, I recommend reading the article where I explain it in detail.
9. Closca Water
Water is a basic resource when traveling in a camper, but we don’t always find a service area available.
Closca Water shows nearby drinking water sources, all geolocated. Simple but very useful when you need to refill your tanks.
10. GasAll
GasAll is used to find gas stations, but with one advantage: it shows the updated fuel prices at each one.
Waze also offers price information, but not as accurate. However, GasAll only works in Spain.
For trips across Europe, you will have to use alternatives.
10. Maps.me
You can’t close the list without including Maps.me, a true Swiss army knife for travelers:
Very complete offline maps.
You can load KML files from Google Maps.
It offers saved hiking trails and routes.
It allows you to locate camper areas, campsites, and even water sources.
11. TripStop
TripStop is an app (and platform) dedicated to those who travel in motorhomes or camper vans — and also to those who manage areas or parking lots for motorhomes.
Its database includes more than 1,700 motorhome areas in Spain and Portugal.
What does TripStop offer to travelers;
- Locate motorhome areas on an interactive map, with verified information.
- Check real-time availability in many of these places, and book directly from the app.
- View available services: electricity, water, drainage, showers, etc.; ideal when traveling in a camper.
- Plan stops easily: booking, payment, and digital access — without the need for physical paperwork.
In short: TripStop makes it easy to find and book camper areas in a simple, comfortable, and reliable way.
